The Golden Format to Moving with an Organizer
Moving is one of the most stressful things you can do in life. A professional organizer, like Aristotle Organizing, can lift that stress off of your shoulders. There is a three step organizing process that I find to be the most effective; step one: the premove purge, step two: the unpack, step three: the organizing. I will break each step down more specifically to give you a greater grasp on the idea.
STEP 1: The Pre-move Purge
The premove purge, also known as the decluttering process, is the best way to start. By going through your items before moving you can save yourself a lot of time and money. Not only will you save yourself the headache of trying to fit everything, including the items you don’t want, but you will save precious time the movers will take to pack and unpack everything. If you have trouble starting the process or making the decisions you are not alone, and don’t feel embarrassed reaching out and asking for a professional organizer’s help. We’re here to help, not here to judge.
STEP 2: The Pack/Unpack
The pack and unpack are technically two things, but I believe these are best left to the movers, so I’ve categorized them as one step. Packing up your items can be very stressful and difficult. You want your items to be packed correctly, not only so they don’t break, but also so they’re not over protected in bubble wrap causing you to end up with more boxes than you need. As a solution, if you don’t know the techniques to packing, I suggest hiring a moving company to do the packing. They will pack things quickly, efficiently, and safely. Plus, they have insurance you can purchase to further protect your items. I also suggest using the movers to unpack. Although professional organizers are great at unpacking, they usually spend more time categorizing and aren’t as physically gifted as the movers. Therefore, if there is time, I suggest having the movers do a surface unpack, and for the organizers to come after the movers to perfect your new home.
STEP 3: The Organizing
This brings us to the last and final step, the organizing. Once everything is surfaced-unpacked, the professional organizers can focus on the individual items. They will start by categorizing, so everything is in one spot, and then they will find the best home that not only looks beautiful but functions well. Once the organizers categorize and find homes for the items, your new home will start to come together like an HGTV home make over. After everything is away, usually the lead organizer will do a walk through of the apartment with you to ensure that everything is working properly and fits with you and your family’s needs.
